Imagine having an AI-powered assistant so advanced that companies are willing to shell out $20,000 a month for its expertise. Well, that’s exactly what OpenAI is planning. According to The Information, the tech giant is gearing up to launch a series of AI agents designed for various industries, with price tags that reflect their specialized capabilities.
For example, if you’re looking for a digital “high-income knowledge worker,” that’ll run you about $2,000 a month. Need an AI assistant to streamline software development? That’ll be a hefty $10,000. But the most elite offering—an AI built to support PhD-level research—will set businesses back a jaw-dropping $20,000 a month. OpenAI firmly believes these cutting-edge AI agents will provide immense value and justify their premium costs.
What’s still a mystery? The launch timeline and the companies lining up to get their hands on these AI-powered assistants. However, we do know that SoftBank has already pledged a massive $3 billion investment in OpenAI’s products for 2025.
To put these prices into perspective, the most expensive ChatGPT Pro subscription currently available is $200 per month. That plan offers unrestricted access to OpenAI’s advanced AI models, including enhanced voice features and the reasoning-focused O1 model.
Despite OpenAI’s ambitious plans, the company has been grappling with financial challenges. In 2024 alone, it reportedly lost $5 billion due to the immense costs associated with training and maintaining its AI systems. However, funding hasn’t been an issue—just last October, OpenAI raised a whopping $6.6 billion, boosting its valuation to $157 billion.
Meanwhile, legal drama has also surrounded the company. In February 2025, a U.S. District Judge, Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, dismissed Elon Musk’s attempt to block OpenAI from transitioning into a for-profit entity.
It’s clear that OpenAI is betting big on the future of AI agents. Whether businesses will see these high-priced assistants as game-changers or just another costly experiment remains to be seen. Would you be willing to pay that much for an AI assistant?
